HAUNTING EXPERIENCE RAISES FUNDS FOR CHILDREN'S HOSPICE
Wallasey-based showering products manufacturer Daryl Industries, stepped into the unknown recently and raised over £1300 for Claire House, the Bebington-based children's hospice.
Seven brave employees stayed overnight in Muncaster Castle, one of the UK's most haunted castles and then held a cabaret evening to screen video footage of their ordeal - bringing the total raised for the charity in the last year to £2,500.
Claire House cares for over 150 children, ranging from infants to 18 year-olds, with life threatening or life limiting conditions. It also provides a support network for patients' families and is dedicated to enhancing quality of life, providing respite and practicing palliative, terminal and bereavement care.
Margaret Davies, area fundraiser for Claire House, said: "We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from Daryl Industries. It is only through the help of individuals and companies like them that we can continue to provide our special care and support as we do not receive any statutory or lottery funding and need to raise over £100,000 every month to keep the doors of the hospice open."
Daryl Industries has supported Claire House for many years, finding fun and innovative ways of raising much-needed funds every year. In addition to Claire House, the Daryl Industries charities committee also selected St John's Hospice as a beneficiary for 2003. Other recent fund raising activities have included a team of runners in the Liverpool Cup Run and the entire company's involvement in national 'Wear it Pink' day for Breast Cancer Awareness.
MORE
In 2004, Daryl Industries is aiming to raise £10,000 for six local charities including Claire House Hospice, Samaritans (Liverpool and Merseyside), Birkenhead Sea Cadets, Birkenhead Youth Club, St Joseph Hospice (Ormskirk), and Project Child (Skelmersdale). In order to meet this target, the committee plans to hold one major charity event each quarter.
William Hogg, managing director at Daryl Industries, concluded: "The charities committee works hard to create exciting events and activities, that enable us to generate funds for deserving causes such as Claire House. I am delighted with the support the team here at Daryl Industries gives to our chosen charities and I am sure that 2004's target of £10,000 will be achieved."
